It's been a quiet sort of a week!!

Well after all the excitement of the new roofs, and rebuilding of the chimney etc. the last week has been really quiet.

Some of the guttering has gone up & the rest is on site waiting to get fixed.

We have agreed the contract for the doors & windows & the joiner has been up to the Yard to check the measurements just one more time - isn't the saying - 'measure twice, cut once'.

We have done some work on tidying up the inside of the units, but won't really finish that work until until all the building/electrics etc has been done.

Meanwhile we continue to turn our thoughts to the forthcoming Bolsover Food & Drink Festival, and to that end we had a meeting this morning with the Town Clerk of Old Bolsover Town Council, who is the 'officer commanding' the event, to talk through one or two ideas we were thinking about.

We are hopeful that we can make one or two announcements in the coming week, about exciting things that we have got planned.

So, nothing much else to do really, except sit out in this wonderful sunshine & 'think'.

Be back next week - see you then!

All in a day's work!!

So, the roofers have gone, but they will be back soon to fix a few 'missed bits' & to put up the guttering.

Things are beginning to look good around the site, and we can see what the finished work might look like.

While the builders are away 'the 'team' spent a day 'on-site' yesterday, sweeping, chopping, sawing & lots of other things.

Thanks to Damion, Zoe & Sarah for their hard work & to me for moving the odd half brick from point A to point B.

All the Units have been swept out, and the old toilet block (well that is what we think it is/was!) has been emptied of rubbish.

As a result another skip is full and awaits collection.

The first paint has also gone up - Bay Green - and will look fabbo when the doors & windows arrive painted in the same colour.

We are beginning to turn our thoughts to the Bolsover Food & Drink Festival on July 21st & 22nd, when we are going to have a presence. We are hoping to have 'something' going on in the Courtyard, because the units will not be ready, where we can tell everybody what we are doing, and 'drum up some interest'.

Hopefully the roofers will be back on Friday to put the guttering up, and then it is - doors & windows.

Once that is done, we can go back to the District Council, and see what they say, and begin to look for some potential tenants.

Other than all of that it is relatively quiet at OBY HQ!!

More in a few days time, after the guttering!

Keep watching!!

So, I have been in Chesterfield this afternoon, so thought I would drop in on Old Bolsover Yard (OBY) on the way home to see what progress had been made since I was last there.

Imagine my surprise when I went into the Yard, and it was completely silent - a bit like a scene in a Western film when they are waiting for the bandits to come riding in!!

No scaffolding, no materials, all the roofs re-tiled, all the pointing done and everywhere sealed up waiting for Phase 2.

I expect that I shall be hearing from Steve in the next day or two to 'sign-off' on the work and then part with some money!

See the photo gallery below of pictures I took earlier this evening.

Another phase of the 're-generation' is happening on Friday, when we are having a skip delivered and the 'working-party' are going to set about clearing out all the units, tidying the courtyard area, and anything else that qualifies for 'going into the skip'.

Then I hope we will hear about the doors & windows very soon, and get those installed, and we will then be 'watertight & secure' - Phase 1 DONE!!

Things certainly seem to have 'taken off' in the last couple of weeks, and so the excitement level is rising every day.

Keep watching for the next installment of the story.

What a difference a week makes!!

Just over a week ago & the 'roofers rolled into town!'

And last night I had a phone call from the contractor to say that he expects that all the roofing & associated work should be finished by next Wednesday.

So I had a trip up to Bolsover this morning to see for myself, where we were at.

And indeed work has really gone on at  a pace in the last week. The 'workshop' is now completely re-tiled & watertight, for probably the first time in many years.

And the single storey building is re-tiled, and the final bit - the 'Gallery' is stripped bare & is beginning to be re-tiled too.

Add to that the rebuilding of the chimney, that almost fell off during the week, and the bits of re-pointing that have been done as work has progressed, and I can see that we are definitely on schedule.

Meantime, elsewhere, the quote has been received for all the doors & windows, and should soon be landing in my 'inbox' very soon, meaning that we can sign off on that & get that underway.

And as well as all that, I had a meeting yesterday with the Town Clerk of Old Bolsover Town Council, and agreed that we will work together on promoting OBY as a new & exciting addition to the town's tourist activity & add value to the economic development of the small business community with the craft workshops.

I agreed with the Town Clerk, that we would have a presence at the forthcoming Food & Drink Festival in July, to promote OBY. So get ready for the banners & balloons!!

After all that excitement this week, I feel a need for a 'lie down in a darkened room!!'

Keep watching out for more updates on progress, and I will leave you with a few pictures, taken this morning, showing 'work in progress'! - including the chimney!

Update on the roof!

It's Sunday morning, all is quiet, the sun is shining & the sky is blue.

Time for a trip to Bolsover to catch up on what has been happening over the last couple of days.

So Bolsover on a Sunday morning seems to be a haven for cyclists, many sitting out in the sun having an early morning breakfast at Weatherspoons.

Park the car, walk to Old Bolsover Yard & what do I see? The front elevation of the Workshop, which had just been stripped the last time I was here has been re-dressed, and you really wouldn't know that it wasn't the original roofing, or that it had been touched since the day is was built!

To the left of me as I stand there marvelling at the sight, the single storey workshop block - where the units are - has been stripped of its roof tiles & the waterproof membrane has been fixed & the cross members (probably not the right term!) are in place awaiting the tiles being put back on.

Moving toward the back of the 'site', I notice that the outside wall of the workshop has been cleared of its old plaster & is 'shining' proudly in the morning sunshine.

Some scaffold has been put up at the rear of the workshop ready to start on the back elevation of the roof.

So there we are - only a few days into the work & it is looking a completely different place. What will it be like this time next week? Who knows!!

Took a few piccies whilst I was there to show what is happening.

Thanks for coming back to the OBY (can't keep typing 'Old Bolsover Yard!!) website & blog page.

More to come very soon!
